Department Of Consumer Protection Destroys $300,000 In Dangerous Dietary Supplements Containing Ephedra

Agents from the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection Drug Control Division and Foods Division have collaborated with the United States Food and Drug Administration in supervising the destruction of approximately $300,000 worth of illegal food supplements containing ephedra as well as other dangerous products.This action resulted from a joint agency investigation of World Health Products, LLC, a Stamford-based business.

The owner of World Health Products, while not admitting wrongdoing, authorized the voluntary destruction of the supplements and was on-site at the time DCP staff denatured the products and rendered them unfit for consumption.

“This drug can dangerously elevate heart rates and blood pressure, and unfortunately, has particular appeal to young people who want to lose weight, either for appearance or to compete in athletic events,” Consumer Protection Commissioner Jerry Farrell, Jr. said today. “My Department is committed to protecting the consumers in the State of Connecticut from these dangerous products that have been implicated in so many deaths.” Read more at ct.gov.

Residual Value

Definition:
